Well, most of you may know that I've been working on a DVD project sense April of last year. I've been making a DVD documentary of the old Augusta International Speedway, and it is just about finished. We will be adding music to it this week then they will be ready to make. The release date is set for February 16. It will have a premier showing at Diamond Lakes (the site of the old road course) on the 6th. I can't believe it's almost done.
Harley Drew does the narration on the DVD and Richard Petty, David Pearson, Rex White, Frank Warren, and a slew of others help tell the story. Throw in some video, photos, and a little cheesy acting and we have a winner. It's about the men who had the dream of what racing would one day become. And the men that could take the same car out of the showroom that Aunt Ethel would drive to church on Sunday, and make it go faster. Then even faster again. Also the men that got behind the wheel of these machines and held the gas to the floor when anyone else would have put on the brakes. And lastly, it's about the possibilities we had right here in Augusta.
It's been a lot of work but I've enjoyed it and if you get to see it I hope you enjoy it too.
The title of the DVD is Augusta International Speedway ... A Race with Destiny.
